{"id":3053,"date":"2026-07-03T22:23:46","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T19:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/btchel.com\/?p=3053"},"modified":"2026-07-03T22:23:46","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T19:23:46","slug":"the-quiet-death-of-the-nordic-bitcoin-treasury-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/btchel.com\/fi\/the-quiet-death-of-the-nordic-bitcoin-treasury-companies\/","title":{"rendered":"The Quiet Death of the Nordic Bitcoin Treasury Companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">When madness and hubris overtook the Bitcoiners and financial markets alike in the summer of 2025, a few strange things happened.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">First, <em>shares<\/em> in bitcoin treasury companies (themselves just a pot of financialized bitcoin) started trading way above the value of the coins they represented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Second, the financial market equivalent of \u201cthe universe abhors a vacuum\u201d rushed in, launching literally hundreds of these companies onto stock markets all over the world.<br><br>Third, in trying to differentiate and maintain their specific value niche, they all tried to raise funds, print shares, and structure convertible debts or other liabilities in order to take advantage of the generational bitcoin bull run.\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-text-subtitle is-style-text-subtitle--1 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Alas, we know how this story ended.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">When the product you&#8217;re selling is overvalued shares, and plunging new investor proceeds from ever-larger securities issuance into ever more bitcoin, two things set an abrupt end to that glorious, orange suitcoiner party: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>a) overvalued shares no longer appeal to investors, and <br>b) bitcoin\u2019s price falling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>It didn&#8217;t take long before there was no more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/fa6c5f15-a19c-4c29-bb5e-f9d1b8dfa029\">financialized equity to extract. <\/a><br>\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The leading source of bitcoin company balance sheet holdings, <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcointreasuries.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BitcoinTreasuries.net<\/a>, still lists 13 Nordic companies owning bitcoin.\u00a0<\/strong><br><br>We took a closer look and provide a brief overview of the seven most astonishing stories of financial hubris:\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">1. <strong>H100<\/strong> is the largest, most active and well-covered Nordic treasury company. Through acquisitions and changes in leadership recently, it\u2019s been pretty good at garnering attention with its core audience and so we have a fairly good idea of what they\u2019re up to.\u00a0<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/bitcointreasuries.net\/public-companies\/h100-group\">Bitcointreasuries.net<\/a> states it holds <strong>\u20bf1,051<\/strong> (corroborated by its public financial reports), basically unchanged since the treasury company <a href=\"https:\/\/stacker.news\/items\/1504781\">flywheel<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/authory.com\/JoakimBook\/a\/ac2cc9da9ecd8446ba7c04ea5d0c717ab\">stopped working<\/a> in September 2025. Since buying pretty aggressively during the summer (at a blended price of about $115,000), the company has carried massive bitcoin-related losses, having toyed with convertible debts and overplayed its hand. <br><br> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">After a few acquisitions and changes, H100 is currently trying to merge with Geir Harald Hansen\u2019s company Moonshot (and Never Say Die AS), which should bring the total bitcoin treasure to around \u20bf3,500.\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">This is achieved via heavy share printing and, in this case, a new, majority owner. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avanza.se\/aktier\/om-aktien.html\/1010247\/h100-group\">The stock<\/a> is trading today roughly where it was when H100 reverse-merged into Healthy to 100 AS and began its bitcoin journey on public markets; and it\u2019s down about 93% from its June 2025 peak.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Per the annual report, by year-end, the company had a 75mSEK convertible loan and about 30mSEK in cash, with no other lien on the bitcoin stash, so there is some financial acrobatics in the firm&#8217;s future. (For reference, its bitcoin is now worth about 600mSEK.) Of course, the accounting losses from the past year were roughly half that, which is to be expected if you aggressively buy the peak, and then ride it all the way down.\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">2. <strong>Fragbite <\/strong>is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avanza.se\/aktier\/om-aktien.html\/1248963\/fragbite-group\">formerly successful<\/a> gaming company, listed in Stockholm and still with an ongoing operating business in online gaming, acquired its first few bitcoin at $113,000 last summer. Thereafter, it fully YOLO\u2019d into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.di.se\/nyheter\/fragbite-ingar-finansieringsavtal-ska-kopa-bitcoin\/\">bitcoin strategy<\/a> rather late, but still managed to hit the peak at around $120,000. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The CEO has since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.di.se\/live\/fragbites-vd-avgar-stannar-i-styrelsen\/\">resigned<\/a>, the company holds \u20bf31.25 (per its <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.mfn.se\/dbde3186-857f-462c-9624-fae88c99b0ac\/fragbite-group-q1-2026-eng.pdf\">Q1, 2026 report<\/a>, acquired at $114,642) and began doing bitcoin options trading a few months ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Curiously, the \u201coptions trading\u201d operations involve MSTR, Strategy\u2019s common stock, not actual bitcoin or actual bitcoin options.<br><br>(Since it\u2019s for short-term trading and the company hasn\u2019t reported Q2 yet, we can\u2019t know exactly, but per <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.mfn.se\/dbde3186-857f-462c-9624-fae88c99b0ac\/fragbite-group-q1-2026-eng.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">March 31, its balance sheet showed<\/a> \u201cfinancial assets\u201d to the tune of about 60% of its bitcoin holdings, so the trading is quite substantial.)\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Interestingly, Fragbite is <em>not<\/em> printing shares to pursue its bitcoin strategy.\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>3. <strong>B Treasury Capital <\/strong>is a \u201cpure-play\u201d bitcoin company, proudly boasting of a \u201cnet sales: 0\u201d post in its financial reporting. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.btc.se\/investors\">Five dudes<\/a> and a pot of publicly listed bitcoin combined with some liabilities (including a BTC-backed custodian loan and a BTC-denominated convertible debt). <br><br>Refreshingly, it\u2019s one of the few treasury companies that has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.btc.se\/investors\">regularly<\/a> purchased bitcoin during the spring. It has <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.spotlightstockmarket.com\/en\/market-overview\/news\/news-article?id=114685\">just closed<\/a> its preferred share (<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BitcoinTCAB\/status\/2072571262061138242\">heavily<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.cision.com\/btc-ab\/r\/btc-ab-announces-the-outcome-of-the-rights-issue,c4370230\">undersubscribed<\/a>) for the Swedish market. At year-end, the cost basis for its then \u20bf166.8 holding was, symbolically, right above the 1-million Swedish Krona (SEK) mark.\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Since it was listed in July 2025, its shares are down 80%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">4. <strong>Bitcoin Holding Sweden, AB, <\/strong>is a mostly invisible latecomer to the treasury space, having only acquired <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcointreasuries.net\/private-companies\/bitcoin-holding-sweden-ab\">a small amount<\/a> (\u20bf2.53) before it suddenly stopped in late November. It markets itself as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinholding.se\/\">Sweden\u2019s upcoming public Bitcoin Treasury company<\/a>,\u201d suggesting that the company has a future, but alas nothing has been <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinholding.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/559509-8129-Bitcoin-Holding-Sweden-AB-20251231.pdf\">heard from it<\/a> or its <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BTCtreasuries\/status\/2055026425741107209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CEO<\/a> for months. <br><br>Like B Treasury Capital, it ran out of funds before the flywheel got started, having a cost basis above 1-million SEK (now worth only about half that).\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>5. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.avanza.se\/aktier\/om-aktien.html\/1199300\/vetted-assets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Refine Group<\/a><\/strong> is an e-commerce platform that jumped on the bitcoin treasury bandwagon in July last year. <br><br>Having acquired the lordly sum of \u20bf7, the company threw in the towel in March this year, realizing a loss of about 25%. (The day of the announcement, the share <a href=\"https:\/\/www.di.se\/live\/first-north-bolaget-slutar-med-bitcoin-aktien-rusar\/\">price doubled<\/a>.) <br><br>Now renamed to Vetted Assets, the company made a wall-art acquisition, has almost doubled revenue, and is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avanza.se\/aktier\/om-aktien.html\/1199300\/vetted-assets\">trading at about 10x<\/a> where it was when it launched its bitcoin treasury strategy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">6. <strong>K33<\/strong> is a Norwegian-listed crypto research firm, with institutional operations and an excellent industry newsletter (&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/k33.com\/ahead-of-the-curve\">Ahead of the Curve&#8221;)<\/a>. <br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Bitcointreasuries.net states K33\u2019s holdings to \u20bf168, mostly unchanged since the beginning of the strategy apart from a few acquisition transactions during the year that have increased their indirect exposure. From looking over K33\u2019s public investor reports, this is either false or misleading. Per the company&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.mfn.se\/f6b50bbc-aa30-4269-93b8-fbffbcea66c4\/q1-report-2026-k33-ab-publ.pdf\">Q1 quarterly report<\/a>, K33 holds about 95 bitcoin on its balance sheet <em>plus<\/em> some \u201cbitcoin exposure\u201d via shares acquired in another company (which, in turn, also only seems to have \u201cexposure,\u201d no real stacking or bitcoin treasury strategy involved).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The share is down 75% from its June 2025 peak, and about 40% below where it was when it launched its <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/K33HQ\/status\/1927599293201875103\">bitcoin treasury strategy<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>7. <strong>Goobit Group<\/strong> is the holding company behind BTCX, Sweden\u2019s oldest bitcoin exchange. If you\u2019ve been around European conferences in recent years, you may have seen them driving a large, pink, BTC-branded Tesla.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Despite not lacking profitability as an exchange, BTCX still hurled itself into a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/goobit.se\/press-messages\/goobit-group-ab-launches-btcx-bitcoin-treasury-strategy-1\">long-term Bitcoin Treasury strategy, aiming to maximize the company\u2019s bitcoin holdings<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Announced in early August 2025, it ran the typical dilution-as-a-service strategy of issuing shares and buying bitcoin\u2026 at the top, only to thereafter go quiet amid plenty of capital destruction. <br><br>The company ostensibly still has the same \u20bf10.63 it acquired <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/btcNLNico\/status\/1958198176671752443\/photo\/1\">that one time<\/a> at around <a href=\"https:\/\/goobit.se\/press-messages\/goobit-group-btcx-buys-10-6294-btc-completing-the-first-bitcoin-purchase-for-its-treasury-strategy\">$116,000<\/a> (plus another coin a few weeks later, bringing the total to <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcointreasuries.net\/public-companies\/goobit-group\">11.7<\/a> from Sept 1, 2025).\u00a0The bitcoin the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.prod.website-files.com\/5e3aac713830449afb7dbc0e\/6a2f9bf0329e9ce199eaf6bb_goobit-group-ab-year-end-report-1-may-2025-30-april-2026.pdf\">company acquired last year<\/a> for long-term holding has now, predictably, been merged into the general business accounts:\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cin order to strengthen the liquidity. Due to this decision, these 11.35 BTC were restated and moved from intangible fixed assets to inventory.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Its diluted shares are down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avanza.se\/aktier\/om-aktien.html\/1222130\/goobit-group\">82%<\/a> from its local treasury-boost peak. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Incidentally, BTCX <em>just<\/em> <em>today <\/em>received a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.di.se\/nyheter\/sveriges-aldsta-kryptobors-far-inte-driva-kryptobolag\/\">negative result on its MiCA license<\/a> from the Swedish financial regulator.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The fanfare that accompanied bitcoin treasury companies into the heart of Wall Street and became the poster child for the Paper Bitcoin Summer of 2025, hasn\u2019t been kind to most participants. <br><br>Back then, every few days, there was another Nordic company issuing shares, buying bitcoin, launching a strategy, or engaging in convertible debt offerings.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Since the flywheel stopped working in the Autumn of 2025, there have been mostly crickets from the Nordic bitcoin treasury company players. And for good reason: Almost none of the companies have been able to maintain its one-time financialization attempt, and the ones that have exited have done so rather quietly.\u00a0<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The bitcoin treasury scene worldwide is comatose. In the Nordics, it&#8217;s straight-up dead. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A closer look at seven of the dozen bitcoin treasury companies operating in the Nordics.
